AUGUST 24, 2018 - Work is being done to compile a comprehensive summary of all changes included in the tentative agreement, and that takes some time. On Aug. 27, the Government Services Bargaining Committee (GSBC) will gather in Edmonton to finish reviewing the more than 300 pages of the tentative agreement and will complete the summary for you. AUGUST 16, 2018 - Today, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) and the Government of Alberta signed a tentative agreement on a new contract for approximately 23,000 front-line government services employees represented by the union. Read full article.
AUGUST 10, 2018 - GSBC and the Employer has met in mediation through the jointly selected mediator, Andrew Sims, QC. GSBC has met over five days, which have been subject to the mediator and negotiator's availability. On Saturday, August 11, 2018, GSBC and the Employer will be meeting again with the mediator for the 6th day of mediation. Hopefully, AUPE will be able to share more information with members following this meeting. However, while GSBC is involved in mediation, details cannot be shared publicly until the mediation process is completed. So far, we have made progress on some of the most crucial issues and I'm hoping Saturday's mediation will result in further progress.
Mediation begins - On June 15 and 16, 2018, your Government Services Bargaining Committee (GSBC) began mediation with the Government of Alberta. Government of Alberta applies for mediation - Your bargaining committee would like to inform you of a recent development in negotiations with the Government of Alberta. On May 30, 2018, the Government of Alberta applied for mediation with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement during the last round of bargaining on April 9 and 10. Despite the Union putting forward a comprehensive package of important contract language and monetary proposals, the Employer refused to respond formally with written counter-proposals. May 1, 2018
Government Services Local Councils summit announced, Essential Services Agreement reached - The last time your bargaining committee (the Government Services Bargaining Committee – GSBC) met directly with the Employer was April 9 and 10. Despite the Union putting forward a comprehensive package of important contract language and monetary proposals, the Employer refused to respond formally with written counter-proposals.The employer’s bargaining position of zero-per-cent each year for two years and a wage re-opener in the third year remains.
