The phone banking program to contact members across GoA about bargaining and layoffs has been extended into September because of how well it is going! We have about 30% of our bargaining unit left to contact. For those of you who don't know, the phonebanks are aimed at talking to fellow members about what's happening in bargaining and what we might need to do to stop the layoffs the government wants to make.
Our local needs more members to sign up to get union leave to participate in the phonebanks if we want to reach out to everyone and build unity for a fair contract. Union leave is where you get paid time off to do work to build/strengthen your union.
Union leave requests can be as flexible as you need them to be throughout the rest of August and September, so if you're interested then contact Madeline Sommers, AUPE staff member, at email@example.com and she will be in touch to talk more about what it entails.
If you've already participated in phonebanking but would like to do it again for a few days, also let Madeline Sommers know.
